Updated January 2007

One of the hazards of playing other people's music can put you in a creative rut...In order to keep the creativity flowing while still remaining a 'cover band', I like to take songs and put my own spin on them, as can be heard on the "November 2000" demo "Love the One You're With" (wow - can't believe it's been over 6 years!).  Danielle and I recorded my arrangements of the following three songs a few months back.  Enjoy!

The Indigo Girls' "Closer to Fine"
This song was always a favorite of mine.
I stayed pretty close to the original version, I just made it a little bigger with some drums, percussion and an Irish fiddle.
I just love those lyrics!

Dusty Springfield's "Son of A Preacher Man"
Re-writing classics is a risky proposition.  I'm happy with how this one came out.  I had a LOT of fun recording the "KF Choir!"

Fiona Apple's "Criminal"
Clay and Danielle had been pestering me to program this song for a while.
Problem was, it wasn't old enough to be classic and it wasn't new enough to be current.
I thought doing it with a heavier feel would freshen it it up a bit.
I hope you agree!

The above three tracks were recorded by Danielle & I in my basement on a regular ol' PC
Equipment used: Korg Triton Extreme for Keyboards & Bass
Alses DM5 for drums & percussion (some live percussion was used as well)
Parker Fly Classic for all acoustic guitar tracks
Ibanez Jem, Universe & J-Custom RG8670 for all electric guitar tracks.
Peavey guitar amp
MXL and Shure & Sennheiser Mics.

July 2004 - "True Companion" - TIB's slow-dance arrangement (4.6 MB)
True Companion is a really nice ballad from Marc Cohn, the guy who did "Walking in Memphis".
Lots of couples consider this song as a first dance for their wedding,
but ultimately it gets tossed because it's not a very good song for slow dancing.

I did this arrangement in an attempt to remedy that problem.  Enjoy!

April 2003 - I'm With You - Disco Remake/Remix (6MB)
I liked this Avril Lavigne song from the first time I heard it.
I rewrote and rearranged the song to make it more dance-able.
If you've seen us in the last couple of months, you've heard us do it.
Danielle Lander, TIB's new singer, provides the killer vocal track!
Thanks to Peter K. again for recording us.
Please do not rename this file after downloading.  Thanks.

April 2002 -
Colleen sings the Star Spangled Banner
Colleen was the original singer for TIB.  After 9/11/01, we got requests at every gig to do the SSB.
We were always happy to oblige and most people were blown away by Col's rendition.
Dedicated to all the heroes.

1. Got To Be Real  (3.5 MB)
2. I Will Love Again (4 MB)
3. Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel (4.4 MB)
4. Breathe (Faith Hill) (3.7 MB)
5. Let's Stay Together (4.3 MB)
6. Love the One You're With - Invisible Band Arrangement (2.8 MB)
Production note: When a band goes in to record a demo, the tendency is to use 'studio magic' to make the band sound bigger, better and fuller.
Extra guitar and vocal tracks are usually added and vocal tracks are taken and re-taken until they are absolutely perfect.
The end result is a demo that sounds great, but is ultimately disappointing when the band can't recreate that great sound onstage.
We made it a point to make this demo sound as close to 'live' as possible.
You will not hear more than one guitar track, nor will you hear more than three single voices singing at the same time.
Most of what you hear was recorded on the first "take".  When you see The Invisible Band live, you will hear a sound very similar to this demo.
Thanks to Peter K. for recording us!
